In an open letter to Occupy Portland on Monday, Parks Commissioner Nick Fish claimed the demonstration is causing an estimated $19,000 in damage to Chapman and Lownsdale squares. Fish went out of his way to laud the efforts of the protesters, writing that he "support[s their] Constitutional right to conduct peaceful protests" and "applaud[s] Occupy Portland's commitment to nonviolence."
